Baker & Taylor has completed its second acquisition of a niche wholesaler in the past two months, acquiring Libros Sin Fronteras. LSF, based in Olympia, Wash., is a distributor of specialized and hard-to-find Latin American Spanish-language materials.
As part of the deal, Michael Shapiro, owner of LSF, will move to B&T's Bridgewater, N.J., office, where he will oversee all of B&T's Spanish-language operations as v-p of Spanish-language materials. All B&T Spanish initiatives will take place under the LSF banner. George Coe, president of institutional markets at B&T, cited LSF's "complete understanding" of the Spanish market, as well as its strong relationships with publishers of Spanish material as key factors for the deal.
The purchase of LSF follows B&T's purchase of the STM distributor J.A. Majors, in late September (News, Oct. 4).
