Doubleday Broadway president and publisher Stephen Rubin and PW executive editor Daisy Maryles will be honored by the UJA—Federation of New York's publishing division at its annual fete in May.
Rubin, of course, is the successful publisher of John Grisham, Pat Conroy, Frances Mayes and many others. He's a former Vanity Fair journalist who started at Bantam more than 20 years ago and publishes, in the UJA's phrase, "prominently and profitably." He'll get the group's prestigious annual prize.
Maryles, who will receive the organization's newly minted Harry Scherman Lifetime Service Award, started at PW in 1965 and has helped shepherd the magazine through several eras of publishing change. Readers know her well for her lively voice in the Behind the Bestsellers column, for her oversight of such wide-ranging PW coverage areas as religion and category features, and for her deep and warm relationships throughout publishing.
