Spinsters Ink, which shut its doors at the end of 2004, has been revived. Linda Hill, v-p and COO of Bella Books, a Florida-based publisher of lesbian books, announced last week that Bella Books has acquired the name and logo of the 26-year-old feminist press. Some Spinsters Ink titles will be made available once again, and the press plans to release six new titles in 2005.
Hill will serve as publisher of Spinsters, which will be based in Florida. Hill is in the process of building a small editorial staff to work on Spinsters titles. She believes that by sharing much of the infrastructure already in place with Bella, Spinsters will be able to expand without many of the growing pains that many small publishers face. Spinsters was closed by its former owner, Sharon Silvas, late last year after publishing no new books for two years (News, Jan. 17).
