Shambhala Publications will launch its new Trumpeter Books imprint this September with poet Patrick Lane's memoir, What the Stones Remember: A Life Rediscovered.
For the 36-year-old Buddhist-oriented press, the imprint provides an opportunity to do something fresh. Shambhala president Peter Turner told PW that "the new imprint will serve as a vehicle for attracting projects not thought of as a Shambhala book and for attracting the attention of people in the media world." Areas to be covered by Trumpeter are literary nonfiction, memoir, psychology and fiction.
Upcoming authors include relationship guru John Welwood, feminist thinker Susan Griffin and marriage and sex therapist Gina Ogden.
Turner plans to publish four Trumpeter titles this fall and then 10 to 12 books a year. Like Shambhala, Trumpeter will be distributed to the trade by Random House.
