Has James Frey started something? This season's new titles seem to include a larger than usual number of entries in the (lately controversial) category of memoir—not, evidently, to be confused with biography. Last fall's announcement listings noted 155 titles in the Biography and Memoir category, of which 23 qualified as "memoirs." This season, we've listed 112 titles in the category, with 30 memoirs. In other words, 27% of these Biography/Memoir titles are memoirs, as opposed to 15% last fall—or almost twice as many now as then. You listening, Oprah?
Readers wishing to hit the road can consult our web-exclusive travel listings next week (click here for part one and here for part two), while homebodies with a botanical bent can dig the gardening titles, also on our Web site, in the March 13 issue. Computer buffs will want to log on to the listings for that category in our February 23 issue. (These listings do not include religion titles; click here for part one and here for part two.)
