Zondervan Sells Brazil Unit
Zondervan has sold its São Paolo—based Editora Vida Ltda. to an affiliate of Producciones Peniel SRL of Argentina. Peniel, a Zondervan distribution partner for seven years, will have distribution and publishing rights to Editora Vida products, and Zondervan will continue to license products to Peniel.
EMC Acquires JIST
EMC Corp. has acquired Indianapolis-based JIST Publishing. Through its JIST Works imprint, JIST publishes career, job search and reference books, videos and software for adults. Its Kidsrights imprint publishes books, videos, games and play therapy materials that focus on such topics as domestic violence and child abuse for children and teens.
Roxburgh Up At Boyds Mills
Stephen Roxburgh has been named publisher of Boyds Mills Press, the trade publishing division of Highlights for Children. Roxburgh, who founded Front Street Books in 1994, became associate publisher of Boyds Mills when that company acquired his, in 2004. Roxburgh succeeds Kent Brown, who founded Boyds Mills in 1990 with Clay Winters and Larry Rosler.
Chronicle Revamps Custom Biz
Chronicle Books has added two sales positions to focus on selling its custom publishing and marketing services to corporate customers. As part of reorganizing its custom publishing, Chronicle no longer has it as a separate division. Customers include Costco, Macy's, Borders and Barnes & Noble.
Greenspan to Keynote BEA
Former Fed chairman Alan Greenspan has signed on to be the keynote speaker at BEA. Greenspan, whose The Age of Turbulence: Adventures in a New Worldis due from Penguin Press September 17, will address booksellers and other attendees on Friday, June 1, at 11 a.m. Greenspan will do a q&a session with NBC's chief foreign affairs correspondent, Andrea Mitchell.
