COMPANY | APRIL 30 | MAY 30 | % CHG. CHANGE |
Even though there were as many winners as losers among the 16 companies listed on the Publishers Weekly Stock Index, the PWSI managed to post a 2.6% increase in May. The gain was led by Marvel Entertainment, whose stock price received a big boost from the blockbuster movie Iron Man. Scholastic’s stock price bounced back in May after two down months; late in the month the publisher announced a $20-million stock buyback program. All three bookstore chains released first-quarter results in May and all had a decline in their stock price. Books-A-Million’s share price fell 7.3% in May, the second consecutive month that BAM had the largest decline among PWSI companies. Source: Reed Business Information | |||
