Amanda Cook has been promoted from senior editor to executive editor at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. She's been at HM for four years and her authors include Paul Davies, Lee Smolin and Stephen Baker.
Goldstein to IDW
Greg Goldstein has been named COO of comic book and graphic novel publisher IDW. Goldstein arrives from the sports collectibles company Upper Deck, where he was v-p of gaming and entertainment. Before Upper Deck, Goldstein was CEO and founder of the development and brand-licensing agency Popmania.
Macro Up at Avon
Lucia Macro has been promoted to v-p, executive editor, at HarperCollins's Avon Books imprint. Macro joined Avon 11 years ago; her authors include Victoria Alexander, Rachel Gibson and Stephanie Laurens.
Choteborsky Up at Crown
Mary Choteborsky has been promoted to the newly created position of associate publishing manager/associate editor at Crown. Choteborsky, who recently acquired Chasing the American Dream by reporter Michael Barone and a book on David Beckham by SI writer Grant Wahl, will continue to acquire nonfiction titles.
Marmion to Head AAP Trade
Bridget Marmion has been named chair of the AAP Trade Publishers Executive Committee. Marmion, senior v-p and director of marketing at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, is replacing Bob Miller, who's been heading the committee since 2002.
Obituary: Brian M. Thomsen
Brian M. Thomsen, a consulting editor at Tor and an author, died September 21 at his home in Brooklyn; he was 49. Thomsen was one of the founding editors of Warner/Popular Library Questar science fiction & fantasy line. Thomsen, a Hugo Award nominee, was also the author of two fantasy novels and more than 60 short stories. He is survived by his wife, Donna.
