The adult hardcover segment posted its second consecutive up month in July, while sales in the elhi segment continued to fall, according to preliminary estimates from the AAP. For the 17 hardcover publishers who report to the AAP, sales rose 6.9% in July, but were still down 15.5% for the first seven months of 2009. The eight elhi publishers reported a 32.2% decline in July sales, with basal sales off 35.7% and sales of supplementary books down 8.5%. Sales for the year-to-date were down 27.6%. The big winner in July, as it has been all year, was the e-book segment, with the 13 publishers reporting to the AAP recording sales of $16.2 million, up 213.5% over last July. For the first seven months of 2009, e-book sales were ahead 173.9%, to $81.5 million.
