Holt High on 'Wolf Hall'
Wolf Hall, a work of historical fiction by Hilary Mantel, won this year's Man Booker Prize, the U.K.'s most prestigious award for fiction. The novel, based on King Henry VIII's adviser Thomas Cromwell, is scheduled to be released in the U.S. October 13 by Henry Holt, which has upped its first printing from 40,000 copies to 90,000.
Mueller Wins Nobel
Romanian-born German author Herta Müller, 56, won the 2009 Nobel Prize in literature. A number of her works are available in the U.S.: The Land of Green Plums and The Appointment are available in hardcover from Metropolitan; apaperback version of Plums is available from Northwestern; Nadirs, a collection of short stories, is published by Nebraska; and Serpent's Tail will have restock of its 1998 Müller novel, The Passport, available by October 23, according to distributor Consortium.
'Wimpy' Run Up
Harry N. Abrams has increased the print run for the October 12 release of Jeff Kinney's Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days from three million to four million. This makes the fourth installment of the cartoon-illustrated novels the largest first printing for any children's book this year.
Earthscan Buys RFF Press Assets
U.K.-based environmental publisher Earthscan has acquired the publishing assets of RFF Press, the publishing imprint of Resources for the Future, located in Washington, D.C. RFF will remain as an imprint and its Washington offices will serve as the North American base for Earthscan LLC, a new Earthscan subsidiary. Don Reisman will remain publisher of RFF Press, and Andrea Titus will continue as sales and marketing coordinator. RFF's distribution will move to Stylus Publishing, Earthscan's U.S. distributor, and Macmillan Distribution will take over distribution in the U.K. Both changes are effective December 1.
