Close Sisters Read for Hachette
Actress Glenn Close will be heading into the recording studio with her sister, Jessie Close, as they read their respective portions of Resilience: Two Sisters and a Story of Mental Illness. In the book, the sisters, per Hachette, “share their story of triumphing” over Jessie’s bipolar disorder. It is written by Jessie Close with cowriter Pete Earley, author of Crazy: A Father’s Search Through America’s Mental Health Madness. Glenn Close provided running commentary, and an epilogue. The audiobook goes on sale on Jan. 13, 2015.
Blackstone Calls in Raver
Blackstone Audio enlisted narrator Lorna Raver to read The Magnificent Elmer: My Life with Elmer Bernstein, written by the late film composer’s former wife, Pearl Bernstein Gardner. Bernstein, who passed away in 2004, wrote the scores for more than 200 films, including those for To Kill a Mockingbird, The Age of Innocence, and Thoroughly Modern Millie, for which he won the 1967 Academy Award. “For this very personal memoir, it was important that we get the author’s voice just right,” said Blackstone. “And Lorna Raver was able to capture the necessary tone perfectly.” The audiobook goes on sale December 1 (RosettaBooks released the title in print in August).
Shields at the Mic for Penguin
Actress Brooke Shields narrated her memoir, There Was a Little Girl: The Real Story of My Mother and Me for Penguin Audio. The title is a “deeply personal look at her life growing up and her at-times-difficult relationship with her mother, Teri,” according to Penguin. The audiobook goes on sale November 18. Shields previously narrated her first memoir, Down Came the Rain, as well as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, among other children’s books.
Marshall in the Booth at Recorded Books
John Marshall was in the booth last month at Recorded Books narrating his memoir, Wide-Open World: How Volunteering Around the Globe Changed One Family’s Lives Forever. In it, Marshall recounts a “life-altering six-month trip with his family, spent volunteering in far-flung corners of the globe,” says Recorded Books, and describes “how in the end he and his family didn’t change the world, [but] it changed them.” Recorded Books will release the audiobook on Feb. 10, 2015, the same day Ballantine publishes the title in hardcover.
Tantor Gets Real with Robertson
Courtney Robertson was in the Tantor studio recording the audiobook for her own title, I Didn’t Come Here to Make Friends: Confessions of a Reality Show Villain. In the book, Robertson, former Bachelor “villain” and winner of the show’s 16th season, “shares her story of love and heartbreak, and the reality of appearing on reality TV,” according to the publisher. The title was published in print in June 2014 by It Books; Tantor will release the audiobook on November 18.
S&S Watches Huston
Actress Anjelica Huston will be in the Simon & Schuster studio to read her memoir, Watch Me, a follow up to 2013’s A Story Lately Told. In the new book, Huston, per S&S, “writes about her relationship with Jack Nicholson, her rise to stardom, her work with the greatest directors in Hollywood, [and] her love affair with her husband.” S&S imprint Scribner will publish the hardcover on November 11, the same day as the audiobook release
Macmillan Taps Bello for Betrayed
Television and film actress Maria Bello narrated her first audiobook last month, Betrayed, the upcoming novel by Lisa Scottoline, for Macmillan Audio. “Maria Bello is one of the best actresses in Hollywood today,” said Scottoline. “She has a genius for portraying smart and strong, yet vulnerable, heroines like the ones I write.” Macmillan will release the title on November 25.
