Unit sales of print books fell 1% in the week ended Nov. 23, 2014, compared to the similar week last year, at outlets that report to Nielsen BookScan. There were no big debuts, and Jeff Kinney’s The Long Haul was the top-selling book for the third week in a row, selling more than 157,000 hardcover copies in week 47. The strong performance of Long Haul helped lift unit sales by 1% in the juvenile segment. Three Frozen titles held the second, third, and fourth spots, selling a total of about 65,000 copies at outlets that report to BookScan. There was no major hit in juvenile nonfiction, although the two Elf on the Shelf books plus a number of Minecraft and Frozen books were enough to raise sales 9% over week 47 of 2013. Sylvia Day’s newest novel, Captivated by You, was the top adult fiction title last week, with more than 65,000 copies sold; David Baldacci’s The Escape came in second with more than 50,000 copies sold. Overall unit sales in the segment were down 6%. Units in the adult nonfiction category slipped by less than 1% in the week. The category was led by Tony Robbins’s Money: Master the Game, which sold just under 87,000 copies in its first week.
