Sales, Earnings Dropped at S&S in 2014
Parent company CBS reported that revenue and profits fell at Simon & Schuster in 2014, relative to the previous year. Sales declined 3.8%, to $778 million, while operating profit dropped 5.6%, to $101 million. Total digital revenue, which includes downloadable audiobooks, generated 26.4% of revenue, down from 27.1% in 2013.
Bookstore Sales Declined Last Year
Bookstore sales dropped to $11.38 billion in 2014, down 4.5% from $11.9 billion in 2013, according to preliminary estimates released February 12 by the U.S. Census Bureau.
Sales Down at HBG in 2014
Revenue at the Hachette Book Group USA fell 4.8% in 2014, compared to the prior year, according to parent company Lagardere. The drop, Lagardere said, was due to a stronger publishing lineup in 2013, as well as the publisher’s long-running standoff with Amazon over sales terms.
