Shoemaker Named President at PGW
Sean Shoemaker has been named president at Publishers Group West. Shoemaker, previously v-p of operations and a member of the PGW executive committee, will assume the new position on April 1, following the retirement of Susan Reich.
“Discovered” Seuss Book Due in July
Random House Children’s Books has announced the July 28 publication of What Pet Should I Get?, following the rediscovery of the full text and illustrations for this book in the office space of the late Ted Geisel, aka Dr. Seuss.
FSG, Faber and Faber Cut Ties
Farrar, Straus and Giroux and Faber and Faber have ended their formal agreement. FSG will no longer publish new titles under the Faber and Faber Inc. imprint. Mitzi Angel, the New York–based publisher of Faber and Faber Inc., will publishing her authors and acquire new projects, under the FSG banner. The U.K.-based Faber will announce new plans for the U.S. soon.
Study Shows Kids’ Books Shifting Toward Diversity
Recent stats from the Cooperative Children’s Book Center at UW–Madison’s School of Education indicate that the number of children’s publications with significant African or African-American rose from 93 titles in 2013 to 179 in 2014. There was also an increase in the number of books with Asian/Pacific-American content.
