Murphy Succeeding Katz as Head of HC Children’s
Susan Katz, president and publisher of HarperCollins Children’s Books, will retire this summer after 28 years with the company. Suzanne Murphy, v-p and publisher of Disney Book Group, has been named as Katz’s successor.
ProQuest Acquires Coutts
ProQuest has agreed to acquire Coutts Information Services from the Ingram Content Group, adding Coutts’s print and digital fulfillment service, as well as the platforms MyiLibrary and OASIS, to it stable of products.
Pubs, White House Partner
On E-reading Initiative As part of two new digital reading initiatives announced by President Obama, a group of major American book publishers will donate more than $250 million worth of e-books for use by low-income students. In addition, a coalition of more than 30 communities around the country, working through ConnectEd, the White House’s digital education initiative, have committed to making sure local students have access to library cards and the educational resources those cards represent.
Time Home Entertainment Rebrands
Time Inc. has rebranded Time Home Entertainment Inc., its book and bookazine publishing division, as Time Inc. Books. The company will debut its new logo at this year’s BookExpo America, at the end of May.
Kiser to Head Running Press
Perseus Books Group has appointed Kristin Kiser as v-p, president, and publisher at Running Press, effective May 20. Kiser succeeds Chris Navratil, who left that post in October as part of a Perseus reorganization. Allison Devlin, who stepped in as acting publisher after Navratil’s departure, is moving to Time Inc. Books as associate publisher.
Caitlyn Dlouhy Gets Imprint at Atheneum
Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing will launch a new imprint under Atheneum Books, called Caitlyn Dlouhy Books, helmed by the editor of the same name who has worked with such authors as Laurie Halse Anderson, Ashley Bryan, David Small, and Sharon Draper in her 16 years with the company.
