Slow First Quarter at Scholastic
At Scholastic, revenue for the quarter ended Aug. 31 hit $191.2 million, up 0.3% over the first period of fiscal 2015. Net loss increased to $49.4 million, from $34.1 million. The best-performing unit was the children’s book publishing and distribution group, which had a 15% increase in revenue, to $68.1 million. The trade segment was up 22% to $47.7 million, driven by the Harry Potter series, a strong fall frontlist, and the Minecraft handbook series.
