HBG: Goop Press, Soft E-book Sales
Goop, Gwyneth Paltrow’s website turned lifestyle brand, will become Goop Press, a book imprint at Hachette Book Group’s Grand Central Publishing division. The imprint will publish at least three books a year tied to content from Goop and the website’s contributors.
Sales at HBG USA fell 4.2% in the third quarter, ended September 30, compared to the same period last year. Parent company Lagardere attributed the decline to lower e-book sales and a stronger publication schedule last year. E-book sales accounted for 24% of HBG USA trade sales in the nine-month period of 2015, down from 28% in the January–September period of 2014.
RH Ups Danielle Steel Output
Dubbing 2016 the year of Danielle Steel, Random House said it is planning to release six new original novels and six mass market paperback reprints by Steel in the calendar year. The publisher said the accelerated schedule—it has been releasing four original Steel titles a year—is in response to demand. RH said Steel’s fans are asking for more books by the bestselling writer. The releases will begin on January 19 with the publication of the mass market paperback, Prodigal Son, as well as the hardcover, Blue.
