Subtle Effect
The #8 book in the country is The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson. This is the first time that the title, which has been on our nonfiction list for months, has landed on our top-10 overall list. Manson first saw success as a blogger and as the self-published author of the dating book Models.
In a recent interview with PW, Manson recalled telling HarperOne, the publisher of Subtle Art: “I can guarantee a good 10,000–20,000 in sales. I know my little fan base is going to show up.” The book has sold 349K print copies to date.
Politics & Parody
Jeff Flake, the junior senator from Arizona, lands at #7 in Hardcover Nonfiction with Conscience of a Conservative. The title pays homage to the work and ideas of Barry Goldwater, an Arizona senator of an earlier era, who released a book of the same title in 1960. Flake has also found inspiration in pop culture, self-publishing (via CreateSpace) government spending reports titled Jurassic Pork and Wastebook: Porkémon Go.
