Swiss author Joël Dicker returned to the French fiction bestseller list in March, landing in the top spot with The Disappearance of Stephanie Mailer, a thriller set in the Hamptons in the 1990s. Dicker’s 2013 debut, The Harry Quebert Affair, topped several European bestseller charts and was published in the U.S. by Penguin. The second slot on the French fiction list was held by In the Light of Dawn, Agnès Martin-Lugand’s literary romance about a woman who flees from Paris to Provence. It was followed by David Foenkinos’s Toward Beauty, featuring a man who flees to Paris from Lyon.
Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls 2 by Francesca Cavallo and Elena Favilli topped the combined Italian list. (The first Rebel Girl title was #5 on Italy’s combined list.) My Dear Serial Killer, the 11th installment in Spanish writer Alicia Giménez Bartlett’s Insp. Petra Delicado series, was in the second slot.
In the Netherlands, U.K. author Santa Montefiore’s romance novel The Temptation of Gracie was in the #1 slot on the combined list. It was followed there by the translation of comedian Stephen Fry’s Mythos, his retelling of the Greek myths.
