A Note on the Lists
Because BookScan was unable to deliver its data for the week ended November 17 before our Thanksgiving deadline, we aren’t running new weekly bestsellers in this week’s issue. Meanwhile, check out our monthly category coverage with the bestselling books of October in eight categories. Our bestseller lists for the week ended November 17 will be available at publishersweekly.com/bestsellers early in the week after Thanksgiving.
Portending Well
Amazon dropped the first official trailer for its adaptation of Good Omens, based on the 1990 novel by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, on October 6. The following week, print unit sales of the 2006 mass market edition spiked, and the book landed at #4 on our Fantasy list for the month of October. The series is slated to air in spring 2019, and tie-in editions will pub January 29 and February 5.
Must Love Dogs
Well before Halloween decorations went up, romance publishers began releasing new and repackaged holiday season titles. Out of the seven books on our October romance list with a winter holiday theme, three are by Debbie Macomber—and four, including two of the Macombers, show dogs on the cover.
Endless Night
Our October Bio & Autobio list is dominated by 2018 releases, with one exception: Elie Wiesel’s Night, his account of surviving the Nazi death camps as a teenager, which Hill and Wang originally published in the U.S. in 1960. The 2006 trade paper edition on our list featured a new translation from the original Yiddish by his wife, Marion Wiesel; upon its release, Oprah selected it for her book club. That edition has become a fixture on our monthly lists, with 209K print copies sold this year to date.
