This month, Michelle Argyle at Melissa Williams Design reimagines the cover of Download Incomplete by R.M. Gayler.
Design Tip #1: I loved the idea of the man being “downloaded” with information. I decided to keep this same idea with a man’s face made up of digital numbers. I also created movement by adding bits of surrounding fragments.
Design Tip #2: The original cover is close to working, but it doesn’t feel as exciting as the book sounds. To remedy that, I chose a font with hints of a thriller.
Design Tip #3: Balance is always important on a cover. Keeping the face off to the side uses the rule of thirds, a useful tool to draw the viewer’s eye into the composition instead of just glancing at the center.
Design Tip #4: Keeping the font white draws the eye to the title first and foremost.
