No one title dominated European bestseller lists in July, as a range of books from well-known mystery authors appeared on different charts. In Sweden, Jo Nesbø’s Knife jumped into the top fiction spot at the end of July, while The Golden Cage by Camilla Läckberg slipped from second place to third. Taking over the #2 spot at the end of last month was Knock Knock, the latest Ewert Grens mystery by Anders Roslund.
Lucinda Riley continued her grip on the bestseller list in the Netherlands with her Seven Sisters series. Two novels were in the top six spots on the country’s combined bestseller list, and six Riley books were among the Netherlands’ top 20 July bestsellers. The husband and wife writing team Nicci French landed in the #2 spot on the combined list with The Lying Room. The novel will be released by Morrow in the U.S. in October.
The German bestseller list has a different look than those in Sweden and the Netherlands. The YA illustrated title Pan’s Labyrinth: The Labyrinth of the Faun by Cornelia Funke and Guillermo del Toro was in second place on the fiction list and was released in the U.S. last month by HarperCollins/Tegen Books. In the top spot on the German fiction list in July was Love in Case of Emergency by Daniela Krien, which explores the lives of five middle-aged women living in Leipzig.
