Hervé Le Tellier’s Prix Goncourt winner, The Anomaly, continued a four-month run in late February atop the French fiction bestseller list. By mid-February it had sold 631,500 copies, according to broadcaster RTL. It will be published in the U.S. by Other Press in November. Michel Bussi’s new thriller, Nothing Can Erase You, about a mother who loses a child, then discovers his doppelgänger years later, was at #2. Bussi is published in English by Europa Editions.
In Germany, Hard Land by Benedict Wells landed at #1 on the fiction list at the end of last month. Wells’s previous bestseller, The End of Loneliness, was published in English by Penguin. American themes were also popular in nonfiction, where Bill Gates’s How to Avoid a Climate Disaster and Barack Obama’s A Promised Land were at #2 and #3, respectively.
Swedes, too, went in for Americana and put Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens at #1 on the fiction bestseller list in late February. It was followed by Lars Kepler’s The Mirror Man, and Lydia Sandgren’s Collected Works, which won Sweden’s top award for fiction. Pushkin Press will publish the English translation in the fall of 2022.
