Florida governor Ron DeSantis has the #1 book in the country with The Courage to Be Free, though he didn’t sweep the nation. The #2 title, Never Never by Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher, proved popular in the northern heartland; the authors self-published the book, now a single volume from Canary Street Press, in three installments in 2015 and 2016. Storm Watch, C.J. Box’s “outstanding 23rd Joe Pickett novel,” per our starred review, is #5 in the country and tops the region that includes the author’s native Wyoming.

Orange Crush

British fantasy author Samantha Shannon lands at #3 on our hardcover fiction list with A Day of Fallen Night, the “masterful standalone prequel,” per our starred review, to 2019’s The Priory of the Orange Tree. (She’s also the author of four books in a planned seven-book supernatural dystopian series, beginning with 2013’s The Bone Season.) The epic fantasy world of Priory and its prequel have resonated on TikTok—#PrioryOfTheOrangeTree, one of several related hashtags, has 58.3 million views.
