A host of new titles and a solid performance by the adult segments led to a 4.7% increase in unit sales of print books last week over the week ended October 8, 2022 at outlets that report to Circana BookScan.
Adult fiction returned to its winning ways with sales up 7.1%. There was no single blockbuster driving sales, but five new releases were among the category’s top 10 bestsellers. Hannah Grace’s Wildfire took the #1 spot, selling nearly 60,000 copies. Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man, Vol. 12 was in third place, selling over 33,000 copies, followed by Judgment Prey by John Sandford, which sold more than 28,000 copies.
Six new titles hit the top 10 list in adult nonfiction, including the top three bestselling titles. John Delony’s Building a Non-Anxious Life was number one, selling almost 45,000 copies, followed by Going Infinite by Michael Lewis, which sold over 34,000 copies, and Natasha Kravchuk’s Natasha’s Kitchen, which sold over 33,000 copies. Overall, sales in the segment rose 4% over last year.
Sales increased 6.4% in juvenile fiction with three new releases leading the way. The Minalima edition of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling topped the chart, selling just under 50,000 copies. Ellen T. Crenshaw’s Stacey;s Mistake (The Baby-Sitters Club # 14) sold nearly 21,000 copies, and Wings of Fire: A Guide to the Dragon World by Tui T. Sutherland sold over 15,000 copies.
Children's nonfiction sales slipped 0.3%. Wendy Loggia’s biography of Taylor Swift stayed in the top spot, but two new releases were in the ninth and 10th positions: Who Would Win? by Jerry Pallotta and There Was a Party for Langston by Jason Reynolds each sold just over 3,200 copies.
