More BEA app news: Perseus Books Group is releasing a mobile application identifying the industry’s hottest fall books, complementing anecdotal reporting with mobile-enabled crowd-sourcing. The app, named 10x10, will enable every BEA attendee to select the 10 books from publishers’ fall 2010 lists that they are most excited about. Convention-goers can also participate by entering their selections online, as well as on any mobile device and smartphone with web access. KiwiTech developed the app.

On Thursday, May 27, at 4:00 p.m., Perseus will reveal the results of the project, including the 10 “most anticipated” fall books and the 10 hottest titles by category, in 10 categories: fiction , current events , history, science, business & economics, art & design, cookbooks, children’s books, inspirational & self-help and “all other.”

Once the titles have been announced, Perseus will offer to convert any of the books for the iBookstore, as well as other e-retailers, for publishers who don’t currently have a digital distribution capability, at no charge, through its Constellation Digital platform. Digital book catalog company Edelweiss will provide metadata for the final results.

Only registered BEA attendees can participate in the 10x10 project, and each attendee is limited to 10 books and one blurb submission per book. The app is available free from the App Store on iPhone and iPod Touch or at www.itunes.com/appstore/. It can also be found at www.bea10x10.com. News about the project will be on Twitter @bea10x10 starting on Wednesday, May 26, at 9:00 AM.

The Daily Beast—which joined with Perseus to form the Beast Books imprint last year—will be covering the project’s progress.
