    In the first week of 2013, four books debuted in the top 20 bestsellers, according to Nielsen BookScan. The top debut was Dean Koontz's Odd Interlude, which sold 21,000 copies, good enough to place it #5 overall, behind only The Third Wheel, Proof of Heaven, Fifty Shades of Grey, and Big Sky River by Linda Miller.

  • Dzanc Books Launches New Imprint

    Dzanc Books, a seven-year-old literary nonprofit publisher headquartered in Ann Arbor, Mich., is starting off the new year by launching DISQUIET. The new imprint will be the publisher’s primary imprint for publishing contemporary literature from around the world that has been translated into English.

  • Tracking Amazon: Dieting Books Dominate Top 10

    One week into 2013, it looks as if people are sticking to their New Year's resolutions, as four of the top 10 print books selling at Amazon were dieting books. The Plan by Lyn-Genet Recitas (#2), Shred by Ian K. Smith (#4), Wheat Belly Cookbook by William Davis (#9), and Fat Chance by Robert H. Lustig, all made the top of the chart, though Robert Jordan's A Memory of Light was #1 overall on its publication day.

  • Macmillan and Entangled Sign Distribution Partnership

    Macmillan will distribute English language e-books of Entangled’s new publications in all domestic and international markets and for all platforms where Macmillan currently does business.

  • Lerner Publishing Promotes Stockland, Closing NYC Office

    Lerner Publishing Group announced Monday that Patricia Stockland, editorial director of the Lerner Publications imprint, has been named the company’s editor-in chief, replacing Mary Rodgers, who resigned in November. LPG is also closing its New York City office at January when it moves its Graphic Universe imprint to Minneapolis.

  • Elsevier Acquires Knovel.com

    Elsevier, a unit of the global STM publisher Reed Elsevier, has acquired Knovel.com, an online subscription reference service providing highly technical data primarily aimed at engineers.

  • Print Units Fell 9 Percent in 2012

    Unit sales of print books fell just over 9 percent in 2012 at outlets tracked by Nielsen BookScan, roughly the same percentage decline posted between 2010 and 2011. Between 2010 and 2012, print book unit sales dropped just under 16 percent. The steepest decline came in adult nonfiction where units fell 13 percent, while units in juvenile nonfiction rose 5.4 percent.

  • Crown Launches Additional Paperback Features with Extra Libris

    Crown Publishers has announced the launch of Extra Libris, a new program under which select paperbacks released by its Broadway Books and Hogarth imprints will provide readers with a blend of additional content beyond the original text. Beginning in spring 2013, all paperbacks issued under the program will include a full 16-page signature of new material, such as author essays, Q&As, and Readers’ Guides.

  • AudioGO Acquires Blackstone Audio

    AudioGO has acquired Blackstone Audio from the Black family for an undisclosed price. The purchase gives the U.K.-based AudioGO a major American presence to complement its existing operations in Rhode Island and New York City.

King, who lives with his wife Tabitha in nearby Bangor, Maine, agreed to sign the book, which was donated anonymously by a supporter of the Emmaus Center shelter for the homeless in downtown Ellsworth. The entire proceeds of the sale will be donated to the Center's fuel fund.
