It doesn’t get any bigger than this week’s biggest release: Jeff Kinney’s sixth entry in his Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, Cabin Fever, drops an astounding 6 million copies on the book-buying world this Tuesday, the biggest release of the year in both kids’ and adult books. Currently, Cabin Fever is no. 5 on the general bestseller list at Barnes & Noble, and has been sitting at the top of their pre-order sales for at least a month, beating out new offerings from Janet Evanovich, James Patterson, Sue Grafton, Clive Cussler, Michael Connelly, Michael Crichton, and the Kardashian sisters, among many others. At Amazon, it’s no. 3.

Of course, PW is just as big a fan as anyone. Take a minute to check out our ongoing coverage of the zeitgeist, including a report on the 46’-by-12’ advertisement wrapped around the outside of Bank Street Bookstore in New York, the excitement Kinney generated ahead of his appearance on NPR’s All Things Considered, the Cabin Fever winter tour, the book six reveal, the mid-2009 scramble to replicate Wimpy Kid’s success, and the reviews: Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Roderick Rules, The Last Straw, Dog Days, and The Ugly Truth.

Other top titles this week include a trio of thrillers (the aforementioned Patterson, Grafton, and Cussler), an imaginary biography of First Lady Pat Nixon, a tribute to America’s queen of daytime television, Oprah, short fiction from long-form master Don DeLillo, and hot-button memoirs from Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, just 11 months after her near-fatal shooting; and Jeff Ashton, prosecutor in the nation-captivating Casey Anthony murder trial.
