Eoin Colfer has been appointed the third Laureate na nOg, the laureate for children’s literature in Ireland. Author of Artemis Fowl and its several sequels as well as, most recently, Warp: The Reluctant Assassin, Colfer, who lives in Wexford, Ireland, is widely recognized not only as a writer but also for his sold-out book tours and lively one-man stage shows, appreciated by children and adults equally.
“I am thrilled and honored to represent Irish children’s literature as the third laureate,” Colfer told PW on the announcement of his new role. “The pressure is on me as the last laureate was wise and enthusiastic and hugely popular, and I will have to work hard to maintain her standards.” He succeeds Niamh Sharkey and will serve a two-year term.
