Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit producer of the Sesame Street TV show, has joined with digital content vendor Impelsys to produce a Sesame Street e-bookstore app for the iPad. The Sesame Street iPad app is free to download and offers subscription access to more than 150 Sesame Street books.
The Sesame Street iPad app allows consumers to browse the e-bookstore titles and offers both a monthly subscription for $3.99 to all the titles or a one year unlimited access subscription for $39.99. Consumers can subscribe and download all their titles to the iPad for use offline without an Internet connection; or Sesame Street e-books can also be accessed online.
Since its release earlier this month, the app has been among the Top Ten Free Apps in the books category on Apple’s iTunes store. Sameer Shariff, founder and CEO of Impelsys, said “this consumer response is further illustration to the global book publishing industry that iPad aps are a crucial way of distributing their valuable digital content.”
Sesame Street e-books offer a range of functionality including e-books that allow a child to read at their own pace; audiobooks with music and sound effects and animated e-books which offer full color animation. Sesame Street e-books also feature autoplay, which automatically turns pages and text highlighting which serves to reinforce and remind young readers of the narrative’s pace. The e-bookstore is powered and managed by Impelsys through iPublishCentral, its turnkey digital content delivery platform.
Jennifer A. Perry, v-p, Worldwide Publishing, Sesame Workshop, said the new app offers an “immersive learning experience at a child’s fingertips, anytime, anywhere.” Perry said, “The portability and interactivity of an iPad offers a new way for families to experience Sesame Street storybooks, concept books, and animated books.”
