The newest title in Jeff Kinney's wildly popular Wimpy Kid series, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck, had an extremely strong first week, moving 1.3 million copies worldwide, in all formats. The book, which was published on November 5, went to press for an announced 5.5 million copies. Abrams, whose Amulet Press imprint publishes the series, said there are over 115 million copies of the titles in the series in print.

Abrams began promoting the title more than six months before its release, incorporating an online cover reveal with, among other efforts, a truck tour to bookstores across the U.S. Speaking to the strong early sales, Michael Jacobs, CEO of Abrams, said: "Sales for Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck in the first week have exceeded all our expectations. We’re thrilled that the new book has debuted so strongly. This is just the beginning, as there is lots more excitement to come with the tours, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade balloon, and the holiday shopping season ahead."

After Kinney's U.S. tour concludes on November 21, he will visit the U.K., Ireland, and Germany in early December.
