Thirty years after the publication of The Napping House, husband-and-wife team Don and Audrey Wood hit the road in support of their follow-up, The Full Moon at the Napping House (HMH). The duo visited 13 stores and many schools along the way, from September 5-22, moving from Washington, D.C., through Texas, California and the Pacific Northwest. See photos from their events below.
Don and Audrey scope out the Full Moon window display at Secret Garden Books in Seattle.
Audrey signs a brick at Secret Garden Books. The store’s floor is filled in with loose bricks that the staff asks visiting authors to sign.
Here the Woods pose with booksellers at BookPeople in Austin, Tex., during a signing. Many fans brought well-worn copies of the original Napping House to be signed.
Alongside their visit to BookPeople in Austin, Tex., the Woods visited Sunset Elementary School. Here they’re pictured with students from kindergarten to second grade.
At Hicklebee’s in San Jose, Calif., Don contributes to the store’s wall, which is covered in signatures and illustrations from children’s authors and illustrators who have visited the store throughout the years.
Hicklebee’s co-owners Valerie Lewis (l.) and Monica Holmes (center) pose with Audrey and Don.
Throughout the duo’s tour stops, Audrey led writing exercises with her “idea box” and Don offered drawing lessons. Here he shows the crowd at Village Books in Bellingham, Wash., how to express emotions with a drawing of a cat.

The Woods meet the press at the NPR/PBS affiliate of the greater Washington D.C. area, WETA.
After the whirlwind tour, Don takes a well-deserved rest after an event at Green Bean Books in Portland, Ore. Time for a nap!
