Disney-Hyperion has acquired two new books by Irish children’s author Eoin Colfer, both taking place in the world of his bestselling Artemis Fowl series. The first book, The Fowl Twins, is set for publication in February 2020, to be followed by a second, as-yet-untitled novel. In the lead-up to publication of the new books, Disney-Hyperion will release repackaged editions of the eight-book Artemis Fowl series, two at a time, beginning this October.
In addition, U.K. and Commonwealth rights (excluding Canada) to The Fowl Twins were sold during the recent Bologna Children’s Book Fair to HarperCollins Children’s Books UK. To date, sales for the Artemis Fowl series have reached more than 25 million copies worldwide.
The new books will focus on Artemis’s younger brothers, twins Myles and Beckett. Colfer said in a statement, “I am delighted to be back in the world of fairies, magic, and criminal masterminds, and I could not be more pleased that Disney and HarperCollins, two wonderful publishers with whom I share a long and fruitful history, are going to unleash the Fowl twins on the world. I cannot wait for a whole new generation of readers to immerse themselves in the magical adventures of Myles and Beckett. The future is bright. The future is Fowl.”
Stephanie Lurie, editor-at-large at Disney-Hyperion, acquired and will edit the books in the U.S. “The Fowl Twins books will transport readers right back to the world of Artemis Fowl with their trademark humor, high-tech gadgetry, and unforgettable human and fairy characters,” Lurie said in a statement. “The contrast between Myles and Beckett is hilarious in itself!”
