HarperCollins has announced a partnership with imbee, the tween social network, and the National Film Festival for Talented Youth to establish the imbee Film Challenge. For the challenge, young filmmakers are asked to adapt selected excerpts from The Magnificent 12: The Call, the debut novel in Michael Grant’s middle-grade fantasy series from Katherine Tegen Books at HarperCollins.
Film Challenge submissions will be screened and judged by a panel of imbee staffers, after which 10 finalists will be posted in the HarperCollins fanzone on imbee’s Web site for imbee user voting. Films by the top five finalists will be screened at this year’s NFFTY (which includes more than 200 film screenings of works by filmmakers age 22 or younger), to be held in Seattle at the end of April. Three winners will be chosen by a judging panel, and the grand prize winner will have the chance to produce an exclusive film project for imbee. Further information is available on the Film Challenge Web site.
The Call was released in August 2010; the second The Magnificent 12 book, The Trap, is due out next August. Katherine Tegen Books will release Plague, the latest addition to the author’s Gone series, on April 5.
