Little, Brown Books for Young Readers has signed an agreement to release a number of titles, in different formats, featuring the Muppets. The agreement comes in anticipation of Disney's forthcoming movie The Muppets, which hits theaters in late November. LBYR's book series will consist of seven titles and will be edited by senior executive editor Erin Stein.
The Muppets caps off a notable recent stretch of brand reinvigoration for the characters that began, LBYR said, with a 2009 video remake of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody," featuring the puppets, that to date has garnered over 20 million views on YouTube. The Muppet books in the pipeline from LBYR include a junior novel, a hardcover joke book, two early reader titles, a sticker-book and a "punch-out-play" book. The first book in the line, Kirk Scroggs's middle grade Tales of a Sixth-Grade Muppet, is scheduled for September with a list price of $12.99.
