Tim Ditlow, who joined Brilliance Audio in 2008 to oversee the company's expansion into the children's audio market, has been tapped by Amazon Publishing for a top spot in its children's unit. A rep for Amazon confirmed that Ditlow has been hired and said his title is "associate publisher for the Marshall Cavendish Children's book titles." That title, though, may be misleading, since the rep acknowledged that Ditlow will be overseeing children's and YA books beyond the more than 400 titles that Amazon recently acquired from Marshall Cavendish.
In a letter Ditlow sent out to agents this week, he described his new position this way: "After many years working exclusively in the audiobook field, Larry Kirshbaum, the v-p and publisher of Amazon Publishing’s East Coast Group, has asked me to come aboard as associate publisher for the children’s and young adult end of the business. This news follows Amazon’s recent acquisition of Marshall Cavendish Children’s Books. I am thrilled to be working with MCCB’s Margery Cuyler, who will remain in her role as publisher under the new arrangement, and who will also report to Larry."
