Raquel Jaramillo is leaving her position as director of children's publishing at Workman to become an editor-at-large at the house. Jaramillo will step down on October 25, and into her new role on Feb. 3, 2014. As editor-at-large, Jaramillo will report to Susan Bolotin, the house's acting publisher and editor-in-chief.
Jaramillo writes books under the name R.J. Palacio and is the author of the bestselling children's novel Wonder. Workman said she is leaving, in part, to "dedicate more time to her writing."
As editor-at-large, Jaramillo will work on projects currently under contract at the house and will continue to acquire titles for both the children's and adult lists.
In a statement, Jaramillo said the decision was a difficult one because her job at Workman was a "dream job" but that devoting more time to her writing is "another dream job."
Jaramillo has been at Workman since 2006 and has edited books by, among others, Rufus Butler Seder, Jennifer Holland, Sean Connolly, and Barney Saltzberg.
