Mighty Media Inc., a 30-year-old packaging, production, and interactive company in Minneapolis has, as of July 1, fully acquired Scarletta, which will celebrate its 10th anniversary next year.
Launched originally as an adult book publisher in 2005 with Nancy Tuminelly, Ian Leask and John Fisher as its founding partners, Mighty Media, which is owned by Tuminelly with her husband, Mike, acquired Scarletta Press in 2010. Tuminelly at that time became the managing partner of a limited liability corporation.
Scarletta began rebranding itself in 2012 with a new emphasis on children’s books for both the trade and educational markets. In 2013, Scarletta published 10 children’s titles and two adult titles. This fall, it is releasing three titles, only one of which is for adults. Scarletta publishes under four imprints: Scarletta Press, Scarletta Junior Readers, Scarletta Kids, and Red Portal Press.
Scarletta will become a division of Mighty Media, now that the LLC has been dissolved. The press also has recently moved to new offices in downtown Minneapolis and this month hired marketing associate Sammy Bosch to replace marketing director Desiree Dillehay, who left Scarletta in May.
“This organizational structure provides expanded marketing and publishing opportunities for both entities,” Tuminelly wrote in an email to PW.
Mighty Media has worked with such publishers as ABDO, Augsburg Publishing, Search Institute, University of Minnesota Press, Minnesota Historical Society, and Wisconsin Historical Society. Mighty Media will continue to package, design, and produce book projects.
