Starting in early 2017, Random House Children’s Books will publish a series of eight original chapter books for girls 6–8 tied to the GoldieBlox toy brand. Stacy McAnulty, known for The Dino File chapter book series and picture books including Excellent Ed, will write the novels.
The books’ lead character, Goldie, is an inventor. She and her three friends solve problems by applying principles of mechanical, environmental, and electrical engineering and coding. “Our goal is to get girls interested in engineering,” says Sarah Pousho, director of sales and licensing for GoldieBlox. Noting that the characters often try things that don’t work before hitting upon a solution, she adds, “The message is, it’s OK to fail.”
The first book will be GoldieBlox Ruins Rules the School in spring 2017, followed by a second novel in summer 2017 and two titles per season thereafter.
GoldieBlox was founded in 2012 and has sold more than one million toys worldwide. It also produces apps that have generated one million downloads. Future licensed products will include footwear, accessories, sleepwear, and more.
