Author Dhonielle Clayton is partnering with nonprofit We Need Diverse Books and Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group to donate copies of her middle grade debut, The Marvellers, and its forthcoming sequel, The Memory Thieves, to students across the nation.
The goal of the giveaway is to provide students in all 50 states with both books. WNDB, the organization of which Clayton is a co-founder, will facilitate in getting books into the hands of educators and young readers.
"We Need Diverse Books warmly thanks Dhonielle for this wonderful donation of books, which will help diversify shelves in schools and libraries nationwide,” executive director Caroline Richmond said in a statement. “Since 2014, WNDB has provided over 100,000 diverse titles to educators, and Dhonielle's gift will allow us to reach an even broader audience."
Published last year and set for its paperback release on August 29, The Marvellers garnered numerous accolades, including a Texas Bluebonnet Award and selection as a Charlotte Huck Honor Book, in addition to earning multiple starred reviews. The Memory Thieves, the second book in the series, is set for September 26.
“I’m hoping that by sending copies of these books, I can invite more young people into this world and remind them that each one of them is marvelous and deserving of magic,” Clayton said in a statement.
