Digital Book World has announced a new awards program focused on e-books and book apps. The Publishing Innovation Awards will recognize the best e-books and book apps for their origination, development, production, design, and marketing. Organizers at Digital Book World 2011 Conference + Expo will present the inaugural awards in five categories—fiction, nonfiction, reference, children’s, and comics—during the first day of the conference to be held on January 24 at the Sheraton Hotel & Towers in New York.
A panel of publishing and technology professionals are advising on the launch of the awards, including Perseus Books Group online marketing director Peter Costanzo, EPUB: Straight to the Point author Elizabeth Castro, and Best iPad Apps author Peter Meyers, who also wrote the paper “Enhanced Ebooks Today and Tomorrow: A Survey for Authors and Publishers.” Liza Daly, president of Threepress Consulting and developer of Bookworm, ePub Zen Garden, and Ibis Reader, will assist the panel in selecting and judging the winners, which will consist of publishers and developers of e-books and book apps.
