After becoming ensnared in a battle over censorship of erotic titles, Kobo is making sure certain publishers feel comfortable using the distributor. Last week, Kobo's Mark Lefebvre e-mailed Vancouver-based LBGT publisher Icon Empress Press stating that Kobo's policies will not be unfavorable to houses that publish gay and LGBT titles.
Icon Empress said Kobo reached out to the press to reassure it that all its titles met Kobo's content standards. Icon said that Kobo was only removing adult material featuring "illegal acts" or acts "deemed to be exploitative." Kobo, Icon Empress said, went on to state that LGBT materail did not fall under this category.
