A new report from BookNet Canada released on Monday, tracking companies' involvement and investment in digital efforts, has found that 90% have e-book programs. The study surveyed a range of houses (from small and mid-size, to large), as well as distributors.
The study also revealed that, among publishers surveyed, the main retail channel for digital content is e-book retailers, at 91%. Another 45% of houses surveyed sell wholesale, while 42% sell direct. Respondents also said that the main reason for undertaking a digital publishing program was to increase sales.
The study is, according to BookNet Canada’s director of customer relations, Pamela Miller, something which the organization intends to release on an annual basis, moving forward. "It will be interesting to see how the current trends bear out for small, mid-sized, and large publishers in the coming years,” she said.
