The not-for-profit Copyright Clearance Center announced that it paid $188.7 million to rightsholders in fiscal 2013, a record number, and an increase of more than 5% over the $179.4 million paid in fiscal 2012. In all, CCC has collected and paid out more than $1.4 billion in royalties over the last 10 years, with a number of new digital services, including RightsLink, Open Access and APC Management, and its Republication Service. CCC's fiscal year ends June 30.
The 2013 payout represents yet another year of strong results for CCC, which offers global licensing and content solutions for publishers and other professional organizations. Under the direction of CEO Tracey Armstrong, who took the helm of CCC in 2007, CCC has seen a steady uptick, and its annual royalties paid has increased more than $34.4 million over the last three years alone. In 2011, the Copyright Clearance Center distributed royalties of $171.1 million, and in 2010, it distributed $154.3 million.
