As predicted at the time of its acquisition by Amazon, Comixology is removing in-app purchasing from its iOS apps, eliminating the 30% sales commission to Apple. Comixology has introduced a new app and consumers with iPhones and iPads will now buy via the Comixology online marketplace.
One of the Seven Big Questions raised by the recent acquisition of Comixology by Amazon was in-app purchasing offered through the Comixology iOS apps. Apple requires a 30% fee for in-app purchases via iOS, and Amazon as well as other retailers, direct their consumers to their own out-of-app online retail sites. The question was answered via a release on the Comixology Unbound blog.
In the release Comixology says: “We have introduced a new comixology iPhone and iPad comics app and are retiring the old one. iPhone and iPad users will now buy comics on comixology.com and download to the app. All your purchased books will be readable in the new app once you’ve downloaded it.”
