Barb Burg, who started her career in publicity in 1986 at Bantam Books and rose to become senior v-p and director of publicity and public relations for Bantam Doubleday Dell, died April 29. She was 50.
During her career at BDD Burg worked with some of the company’s biggest authors, including Dean Koontz, Louis L’Amour, Lee Child, Sophie Kinsella, Tom Robbins, and Rita Mae Brown. She also developed marketing strategies for bestselling titles by Stephen Hawking and Sting. After leaving Random House in 2009, Burg started her own media firm before being named v-p and global head of communications for Reuters at Thomson Reuters in 2011.
Burg is survived by her husband Steven Schieffelin and their children Celia, 18, and Drew, 17. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in memory of Barbara Burg Schieffelin to Camp Ta-KumTa, a summer camp for children afflicted with cancer.
