Gail Browning, former Random House v-p and divisional sales director, died January 19. She was 80.
Browning joined Bantam Double Dell in 1979 as divisional director and later worked in the same position at Random House. She is remembered as a fierce advocate for books, authors and for booksellers over the course of her career.
She is also cited as a valued adviser to senior management and credited with playing a key role in the building and development of the retail sales team after the merger of BDD with Random House..
Browning retired from Random House in 2003. Penguin Random House sales president Jaci Updike said she “left a better stronger organization, filled with colleagues who were wiser for having worked with her.”
