Bob Schmid, a longtime Simon & Schuster sales representative, died February 28 in Baltimore, Md. He was 74.
An avid reader from a young age, Schmid attended the Great Books program at St. John’s College in Annapolis, Md. After working at Remington’s Books in Baltimore, Schmid joined the Pocket Book division of S&S in the early 1980s, selling mass market paperbacks. Among his major accounts was Crown Books.
In the 1990s, Schmid joined the trade division of S&S in a reorganization of the sales groups. His territory at that time included the Baltimore and Washington markets. Around the year 2000, his territory was expanded to include Virginia and part of North Carolina.
Schmid retired from S&S for health reasons in 2007. He is survived by two sisters, three nieces, and two grand-nieces.
