Former publishing executive Marvin Brown died at his home in Boca Raton, Fla., on July 15. He was 87.
Brown had served as president at Atheneum Publishers from 1961–83, New American Library from 1983–87, Viking Penguin from 1987–91, and Penguin USA from 1991–97. Over his 30-plus-year career in publishing, he also served on both the University of Pennsylvania Library Board of Overseers and the Board of Trustees for the University of Pennsylvania Press for five-year terms.
Brown was born on January 28, 1935 in Bayonne, N.J., and in 1960 married Marlyn Susman, who predeceased him in 2017.He is survived by his children, grandchild, sisters-in-law, and numerous adoring nieces, nephews, grand- and great-grand nieces and nephews. Remembrances can be made in the form of a donation to the American Cancer Society.
