Robert Scudellari, who served as corporate art director at Random House in the 1970s and '80s, died on June 3. He was 88.
During his 26-year tenure at Random House, Scudellari spearheaded book-jacket designs for such authors as Toni Morrison, John Cheever, Robert Caro, John le Carré, and Anne Rice. He oversaw art direction for five Random House and Knopf imprints and designed the covers of the Random House Modern Library and black-jacket Library of America series collections.
"Bob was immensely talented and great to work with," said former Knopf editor-in-chief Bob Gottlieb. "What more can you ask of an art director?"
Scudellari is survived by his two children.
